  • About our walks

About our walks

P4W Walk is a health walk initiative which aims to promote walking to people from all walks of life, especially to encourage those who are inactive to become active.  It does this in several ways, such as establishing free local walking groups, training of their leaders and working with health professionals to refer patients who may benefit from these groups.

P4W has been supporting happy, healthy lifestyles since the organisation started in 2004 - taking on the leadership and development of the Highlands' own health walks project that had been originally started all the way back in 2001. In all of this time thousands of people have been able to join walks and proactively improve their own physical and emotional health and wellbeing by getting involved and keeping active.

New walkers and volunteer walk leaders join all the time - the service is now bigger than it has ever been.

In addition to our long history of generic health-walking groups we have begun to focus some of our walking on specific communities of interest. We have been working alongside our friends at Highlife Highland in recent months as they begin delivering 'Move More' in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support. Some of our walking groups have now been trained to be Macmillan 'Move More' health walks - the groups that are trained are marked by a  alongside their walk entry on our 'Join a Walk' page.

We are also working with the Life Changes Trust and Paths for All Dementia Friendly Walking to enable greater access to health walking for people with dementia and their carers.
