There are many ways to enjoy exercise that don't require an expensive gym membership.  Here in The Highlands we are luckier than most, with beautiful countryside, water all around us and hills/mountains to challenge us!

1) Walking is one of the easiest ways to get more activity into your day, lose weight and become healthier. Research shows people who fit moderate activity like walking into their daily life burn more energy than those who make weekly visits to the gym. In addition to leaving the car at home and walking to work, why not join a P4W walking group local to you? A walk a week in the fresh air, enjoying good conversation with fellow walkers amidst beautiful surroundings is a wonderful way to get fit.

2) If you enjoy jogging/running The Nairn 10KM and Inverness half Marathon are taking place in March 2019 and are an ideal opportunity for those wishing to increase the pace of their walking.

3) If you have a road worthy bike that is safe and a helmet then cycling is a great way to get around. There are cycling clubs to join and many Highland cycling routes to enjoy.

4) For those who have the courage there are plenty of Lochs and Sea up here, even a Loch Ness New Year's Dip favoured by a few!  For the majority of us there are swimming baths aplenty for the price of a ticket.

5) Dancing comes in many forms, from Ballroom to Disco to Ceilidhs and enjoyed by all ages.

6) Badminton can be enjoyed in the garden with just a couple of racquets, a net and shuttlecocks There are many clubs scattered throughout the highland area too for a charge.

7) Yoga is a superb form of exercise, physically, emotionally and spiritually that can be enjoyed at home as well as at a local class for a charge.

8) Lawn, Crown, Indoor Short mat and Carpet Bowls are enjoyed by all ages with many clubs throughout The Highlands.

9) For the price of a skipping rope, skipping is an exercise easily carried out both indoors and Out.

10) With walking football becoming increasing popular this is a great way for armchair football supporters to enjoy taking part in their sport of choice without exerting the amount of energy required for a regular game.
